Past Exhbitions -- April 2005Maria Emilia: Life Performances, 2002 - 2005
Exiled to the U.S. in 1961, Emilia draws upon the anxiety of separation from her family and homeland in her works. Her latest multi-media works depict the journey of her altar ego through various "life performances", as if the artist is but a bit player in her own life. Rather than leaving the viewer with an impression of an artist removed from her work, these pieces show an artist exploring the inner sanctum with an unparalleled honesty. Maria Brito: Reflections on the Human Condition
This is the first exhibition devoted to digital art hosted by The Arts Center. "Our show has painters, photographers, cartoonists, assemblagists, and other contemporary artists intermingling and crossing boundaries in digital art. This cutting edge form of expression is reconfiguring our notions about art," says Mr. Breit. See works by Jerry Uelsmann, Baron Wolman, Anna Tomczak, Michael Volbracht and others. Jean-Claude LeGagneur: Vivid Perspectives
Jean-Claude Legagneur studied at the Art Instruction School in Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum and the Art Students League in New York. His vibrant acrylic paintings have been exhibited internationally and are in numerous permanent collections, including the Museum of the Vatican, the Museum of Mupana, Port-au-Prince, and American Airlines. A resident of Haiti, he is a leading member of the "Ecole de La Beauté" -- a formal, socially engaged vision of art informed by its rupture with other indigenous, politically-motivated Haitian art. |
