Matt Schiemann

Matt Schiemann is a second generation potter.  He received his BS degree from Ashland University in Ohio and then went on to earn his MFA in ceramics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  Matt has shown in numerous galleries around the country, and is now an Artist in Residence at St Petersburg Clay Company.

2008 – Present:
     Instructor of Record (Wheel Throwing), School of Art and Design, SIUC
-Created course syllabus, instructed students on beginning wheel throwing
             -Arranged kiln loadings and firings.
     Personal Assistant for Harris Deller, School of Art and Design, SIUC
-Prepare personal work for shows, assist in shooting slides, organizing submissions for exhibitions and shows.
-Initiated building and construction of new soda kiln.
2006 – 2008:
     Studio Technician, School of Art and Design, SIUC
            -Maintaining and repairing studio equipment
            -Created an inventory system for organizing and ordering studio supplies for all
             graduate and undergraduate ceramic materials.
            -Repaired electric kilns and built/rebuilt gas kilns
     Graduate Assistant (Industrial Design), School of Art and Design, SIUC
            -Maintained and Repaired shop equipment
            -Inventoried and Ordered materials
            -Supervised student progress on various industrial design projects
            -Facilitated group discussion and classroom instruction
2007:

            -Managed employee schedules and payroll
            -Supervised staff’s level of customer service and quality of craft education
