Summer Exhibitions at the Arts Center Open July 21, 2006

Opening Reception, 5:30pm to 7:30pm

St. Petersburg, Florida, July 10, 2006 -- The second set of Summer Exhibitions at the Arts Center opens Friday July 21, 2006, located at 719 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. Three exhibits focus on the concept of time and its passage. The exhibits are as follows:


Ephemera: Annual Members' Exhibition

Synovus, Everett and Stanley Galleries

Arts Center member artists are challenged to create a work of art that conveys their perception of the passage of time, revealed either in the imagery, the technique and media, or the way the piece is perceived by the viewer. Over 250 works of art will be displayed.

Winners for Members' Exhibition will be announced at 6:30 PM


Project Creo: Ephemera

Progress Energy and Hough Galleries

Artists use media such as video, installation, and kinetic art to create works of art that are sequenced through time, that change as they are viewed, or that are ephemeral. Participating artists include: Wm Graef, NYC; Thomas Murray, St. Petersburg, FL; Lei Han, Asheville, NC; Brian DeLevie, Denver, CO; Michael Ryan, San Francisco, CA; Claudia Sohrens, NYC; Kristin Beal-DeGrandmont, Lynchburg, VA; and Haakon Faste, San Francisco, CA.


Academy Prep Student Exhibition

Risser Gallery

Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg and The Arts Center have partnered on educating young minds through art for over 7 years. The students, grades 5-8, enjoy classes at the Arts Center each week, taught by local artist Judith Salmon, furthering their curriculum at Academy Prep.

Opening Reception 5:30 - 6:30 PM, Saturday, August 12th to coincide with the Second Saturday Gallery Walk


About the Arts Center

The Arts Center is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, located in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. The Arts Center inspires, educates, and engages a diverse population in the creation of contemporary visual art by providing a dynamic, professional environment to foster the creative process, allowing artists and the community to meet and exchange ideas. We offer extensive studio arts classes at all levels across a wide variety of media, and we exhibit outstanding recent work by local, regional, national and international artists through an extensive program of rotating exhibits created by student, emerging, mid-career and established artists.
