Fall Exhibitions at the Arts Center Open September 8th

St. Petersburg, Florida, August 8, 2006 -- The Fall Exhibitions at the Arts Center open September 8, 2006, located at 719 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. The Exhibition runs until October 29, 2006. The exhibits are as follows:


Virginia Beth Shields: "On Becoming" and "Remnants"

Lakeland resident Virginia Beth Shields is descended from a long line of South Carolina sharecroppers, and her ghostly black-and-white photographs and installations capture people and places from an American South that is quickly fading into history.

Tomorrow's Drawing Today: Curated by Sandy Besser

Santa Fe art collector and curator Sandy Besser presents an exhibition of drawings from "under-recognized" artists from his region. Works will vary from lovely portraiture to provocative illustrations.

14th All Florida Juried Exhibition: Juried by Dr. Donald Kuspit

The Arts Center's bi-annual All Florida juried exhibition features works by over 40 Florida artists, chosen by juror Donald Kuspit, contributing editor to ArtForum and Sculpture magazines.

Dr. Kuspit will be hosting a luncheon and lecture at the Mahaffey Theater at 12 PM, Sept. 8, 2006. For more information please contact Donna Fletcher at the Arts Center.

The Arts Center inspires, educates, and engages a diverse population in the creation of contemporary visual art by providing a dynamic, professional environment to foster the creative process, allowing artists and the community to meet and exchange ideas.
