Art Camp FAQs

Registrations: All required registration forms must be completed and turned in before beginning camp. Our youngest campers must be 5 years of age on or before their first day of camp.

Registrations must be accompanied by a completed registration form and payment. Enrollment is limited and spaces are filled on a "first come-first served" basis.

Special requests: Please specify on your registration form if you would like your child in the same classroom as their friend. We will do our best to honor all requests. Note: A request for an older child to be with a younger child will be honored only with the older child in the younger group.

What to Wear: Dress for mess. Dress comfortably (jeans, sneakers, t-shirts). "Roller or Heely" shoes are not allowed at art camp.

Snacks and Lunch: Two 15 minute breaks are taken in the 5 - 11 year old program, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. A snack can be brought from home or purchased at our snack cart for 50 cents to $1 each. The 8 - 11 year olds have 30 minutes for lunch from 11:45am - 12:15pm. The 5 - 7 year olds have 30 minutes for lunch from 12:15pm - 12:45pm. Weather permitting; all campers eat outside at picnic tables in our fenced-in clay porch area. All campers should bring a lunch from home. Please note: Lunches are not refrigerated. Please include a freeze pack in your camper's lunch and water, if needed.

How many children will be in class with my child? 5-11 year old camps have the capacity for 18 students in a class. 12-15 year old camps have 8-12 students in a class.

How many teachers in a class? What is the student to teacher ratio? There is one lead teacher in each class along with 1-2 teaching assistants. Teaching assistants are high school aged students under the supervision of the lead teacher and the camp director.

What will my child be doing during the camp week? Children ages 5-7 yrs. are in a self-contained classroom, meaning the various art processes will be taught in their classroom. The 9-11 year old campers will rotate among 3 classrooms in their assigned groups. Two classrooms are in the main building and one classroom is located in the hand building room of the clay studio.

During the week campers will learn various art processes (such as: exploring wet-on-wet watercolor, mono printing with Styrofoam, oil pastel resist, etc.) Through the art processes they will use the designated weekly theme to create art which is both teacher guided and self-guided experiences. In addition, younger campers will have opportunities during their day for creative expression in the use of small manipulatives, books, and puzzles.

What do the themes mean? The themes are a jumping off point for teachers to plan from. Teachers may use various ideas such as cultural art, language arts, art history, or a master artist to interpret the theme. For example: Artists Under Construction A Teacher may have the students study the culture & art of the Northwest Pacific and draw, design, and construct totems. Another teacher may have the students study artist Alexander Calder and his circus constructions then have the students design and construct their own circus scene.
