The dramatic contemporary glass art exhibition currently at The Chihuly Collection is a delightful and diverse showcase of Morean Glass Studio Artists/Teachers. The trio, who can be visited with at the Morean Glass Studio hosting live demonstrations and guiding adventurous visitors in personal hands-on glass experiences have each selected a handful of work to best indicate their style. The show is on display now until the end of May 2021.

Executive Director of the Chihuly Collection, Andy Schlauch said “I’m so excited to showcase our talented teachers, who offer amazing classes in glass art every month.” It really is a great opportunity to show off the talented artists at our glass studio.

The first thing you see as you walk into the exhibit are the glass floral arrangements by Bao Thao. Lavender glass flowers are beautifully arranged in earth tone vases, going perfectly together while still having their own unique style. When I asked her how she felt about being in the show, she said “I’m excited about the show, it’s great to have this kind of support for local artists. It’s an amazing privilege to have my work showing at the Chihuly Collection.” She has been working with the Morean Glass Studio for the last 3 years, and does everything from running the retail store to teaching multiple classes in the evenings.

Next up is Tim Soluna, who has been working as an artist with us for a few years, and just recently got promoted to Glass Studio Manager. Tim uses cane (a cross section of glass made by pulling and stretching molten glass from both ends) to do the intricate design work in his pieces. In 2009, he received a scholarship to attend Pilchuck Glass School’s summer intensive learning from Tom Rowney. There he studied the creation of intricate glass pattern canes and their application in making delicate goblets. “I’m inspired by the idea that even though these techniques have been refined over hundreds of years, there’s still so much innovation possible” said Tim.

Some of the work Anjali Singh has on display is delicate purple vessels, that bring to mind the Grecian works of antiquity. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2016, and has followed her passion for glass blowing ever since. In her artist statement, she says “My work is an expression of myself, searching and discovering what appeals to me.” Anjali loves teaching, and sharing her excitement about glassblowing with the students.

Access to the exhibition is free to Morean members and anyone purchasing a ticket to visit the Chihuly Collection. The Collection is currently open 7 days a week. Hours are 10-5pm Monday-Saturday, and 12-5pm Sunday.
