Experimental Ceramics with Mike Cannata

Monday, 6 classes

6pm – 8:30 pm

Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Offered for:

Fall Session 2 (Nov 7, 14, 21, 28, Dec 5, 12)

Winter Session 2 (Feb 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27, April 3)

In this class we will explore and investigate the dynamic possibilities of ceramics. We will incorporate thick, crunchy and gooey textures using slips and glazes! Students will embark on pushing the opportunities available in ceramic construction; sticking bone-dry pieces of clay together with slip. We will try different avenues of attachment such as kiln cement or building on top of bisque-ware with unfired clay. In this class we will move clay in liquid form as if it were paint. This class is designed to move away from stiff and ridged approaches so one can create in a more loose and freeing way. I want to give students the tools and skills to be inventors and explorers; to join in joys of contemporary ceramic play!
