Glass Beadmaking & Metalworking (Combination Jewelry Class)

Enjoy this unique class that combines glass bead making and metal working. Not only will you learn how to make wonderful glass beads, you will also learn how to create pieces of silver and copper jewelry that incorporate the glass beads you make! Two instructors have combined their talents to provide you with this great learning opportunity.

The class will be limited to 8 students. Class time will alternate between glass lampworking & metalworking to ensure skills are developed in both areas. This 6-week beginner’s class provides you with the opportunity to try your hand at the basic techniques of both lampworking and metalworking. Both techniques require the use of gas-fueled torches. Learn basic information about safety, the use of the torch and other studio equipment.

Open to all skill levels.

Lampworking (glass) portion of the class:
We will explore the application of glass to various size mandrels and utilize a variety of techniques. Techniques will include basic hot glass work, color mixing, pulling stringers and a variety of stringer applications to beads. Beads will be kiln annealed and returned to students to be incorporated into their metal jewelry designs.

Metalworking portion of the class:
We will be focused on making the elements to create pieces of jewelry. You will learn the basics of metal fabrication. Techniques will include soldering, sawing, filing and wire work to create clasps, earwires and other elements.
