NEW! Introduction to Fusing & Enameling
with Bao Thao

Thursdays, 4 classes
6pm – 9pm

Offered for:
Winter Session 1 (Jan 9, 16, 23, and 30)
Winter Session 2 (Feb 27, March 5, 12, and 19)
Spring Session (April 16, 23, 30, and May 7)

Proper attire to work with glass is long sleeve shirts/long pants made in natural fibers and comfortable, closed toe shoes. Eye protection, respirators, and gloves will be provided.

Students will be introduced to cutting sheet glass to fuse and slump into business card holders, a little dish, and make a plaque. We will also explore glass enameling, fire on decals, and sandblast to decorate the surface of glass work on the plaque project. This class is aimed to offer glassworking skills outside of the hot shop. If students would like to bring their own fused projects to complete, they are welcome.

Proper attire for working in the coldworking studio is pants, comfortable long sleeve shirt, and comfortable, closed-toed shoes.

Bao Nya Thao

Emerging Hmong-American artist, Bao Nya Thao, was first introduced to glassworking in 2006 at the University of Wisconsin Marathon County. After becoming hypnotized by the molten medium, she continued her glass education at UW Madison to follow the traditions of glass pioneer, Harvey Littleton, and UW alumni, Dale Chihuly. Here, Bao studied the different forms of glassworking favoring glass enameling, fusing, and coldworking. Following the completion of her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2012, she served a year in AmeriCorps, was a coordinator for an after-school program, and explored the southcentral area of Alaska. Currently, she is the newest member of the in-house gaffers at the Morean Arts Center.
