Born in 1949 in Florida, Robert Calvo was a multimedia sculptor. He studied at the University of South Florida where he graduated with honors. He went on to receive the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Award twice. He won numerous craft awards and his sculptures can be found throughout Tampa Bay. He designed and built two bridges entitled Arcade that can be found at AL Lopez Park. Robert also designed three monumental sculptures representative of historical libraries located in the Poynter Library at USF St. Pete. After moving to Portland later in life, Calvo designed several sculptures in the Portland area. Robert was involved in several exhibitions at the Arts Center over the years, most notably a two-man show with John Stanley in 1984. His large mixed media piece, The Real Church, is in the Morean’s collection.
