Exhibition Statement
September 11, 2021 is the 20th anniversary of a day that struck us all with shock and tragedy. As we begin to emerge from the depths of another national – and global – tragedy, we must find ways to push through our collective uncertainty, divisiveness, and grief.
For this open-call exhibition, we asked artists to illustrate resilience, healing, and hope for the future. The response from over 30 artists was as varied as the artists themselves. Alongside images of the New York City skyline, the Twin Towers, and newspaper clippings from that fateful day, you’ll also get an overwhelming sense of positivity and joy from the participants. Themes of hope are abundant in the gallery; family, faith, freedom (even fireworks!) are on display here.
We are thankful for these artists who remind us of the power of images and the resilience of the human spirit.
