This workshop gives students an introduction to Cyanotype; the process of coating paper in specialized chemicals that react with UV light to produce a static image. It is one of the oldest and most accessable photografic printing processes. Class will pair a short demonstration with hands-on lab time, so students each have ample printing time. We will cover choosing the correct paper, application tools, and light source, to capture a range of plant and found object images.Â
Students will leave with their own one-of-a-kind works of art, created with light, patience and imagination.Â
Artist Bio
Constantinos Loumakis (Misei) is a retired commercial photographer with over 40 years of professional experience spanning film, digital, prepress, and broadcast work, including projects for CBS, television, film, and major stock agencies. In recent years, he has focused on historical and alternative photographic processes and is the inventor of the Algorithmic Pigment Process (APP), a patent-pending printmaking method that incorporates reclaimed laser toner into traditional gum bichromate and cyanotype frameworks. He brings both a craftsman’s technical precision and a fine-art sensibility to his teaching. Learn more about Constantinos and his process here!
