Richard’s sculpture won Best of Show in the Arts Center’s 10th Annual All-Florida Juried Exhibition in 1998, with Daniel Stetson serving as juror. The following year, juror Janis Karam Gallo included his work, In Utero (2), in the 1999 juried exhibition, which was the first show to be displayed in the Arts Center’s main gallery. That sculpture, over 7 feet tall, made of glass and resin, and quite heavy, was delivered by the artist to the gallery while the dry wall was still being installed. We like to say that we built the gallery around Richard’s extraordinary work.
