On View at Chihuly Collection: December 3 – February 26
A commitment to the education of children is a lifelong passion of Dale Chihuly, and a primary focus of the Foundation he shares with his wife, Leslie. Youth arts programs and accessibility to those programs is also one of the major components of the Morean’s mission. Every few years, the Education and Exhibition teams at the Morean celebrate this passion by putting together an exhibition featuring work created by kids inspired by Chihuly’s engaging, wonder-filled installations.
During the summer, our facilities transform into loud, joyous, creative kids’ classes. Our 2022 Summer Camp program introduced children each week to new ideas and art techniques. These children had the opportunity to learn with our camp instructors, who are also dedicated working artists offering superior guidance to these young artists. A highlight of each week was when campers from ages 5 to 11 had the opportunity to experience a docent tour of the Chihuly Collection. This inspired the students to create artwork based on Chihuly’s love of color and the element of surprise in art-making. Working with tempera and acrylic paints and found objects, these children used every corner of their young imaginations to bring out the best of their fresh talents.
All of the work in this exhibition was created by students enrolled in our Morean Youth Programs, which includes our popular Summer Camp, Thanksgiving Camp, One-Day Chihuly Camps, and Mixed Media Madness classes. Their creations demonstrate the child-like wonder of Chihuly’s artwork and its enduring appeal for all ages.
Sales from this artwork will support future education and exhibition programming at the Morean Arts Center.
