The Morean Arts Center is seeking artists residing in the Tampa Bay area to participate in an exciting fundraising event to be held at the Morean Center for Clay on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
Event description for attendees:
Introducing “Iconic: Paint St. Pete Edition,” a thrilling event where our city’s talented artists engage in a one-day battle of the brushes. Get ready to witness mesmerizing plein air paintings unfold before your eyes during the day at several iconic St. Pete locations, then attend the evening event to view the final masterpieces, bid on your favorites, and cast your vote for the most captivating artist in the People’s Choice awards as the evening draws to a close.
We’re looking for artists who can paint in the plein air tradition to participate in this event!
Participating artists will agree to paint on site at a predetermined outdoor St. Pete location between the hours of 10am 2pm on Saturday, February 24th. Each artist will create at least one painting during this time period, which will then be displayed at and auctioned at the Iconic event that evening.
PLEASE NOTE:
Each artist will have 4 hours to create a plein air-style painting for this event. If you are applying for this competition and selected for this event, you are committing to completing a landscape painting within that period of time. The size of the painting(s) is up to the individual artist. The artist must also provide a frame for the finished painting.
Benefits:
1) Eligibility for the top prize of $500 plus a solo show in the Morean’s Pop Up Gallery, selected by a panel of judges
2) Eligibility for the People’s Choice award of $500
3) Possible sale of your artwork (all paintings completed during the 4-hour painting event will be part of a silent auction, with the artist receiving a portion of the proceeds)
4) Opportunity for future painting commissions
5) Participating artists receive complimentary VIP admission to the Iconic event for themselves and a guest
Eligibility:
The competition is open to any artists (age 18 or older). All artists who work in oil, watercolor, acrylic or pastel will be considered. The Morean’s curatorial staff has the final authority for selection.
Agreement:
Submitting an entry form to this competition constitutes an agreement on the part of the artists with all conditions in this prospectus. Sales of landscape paintings are encouraged and the Morean retains a commission on all works auctioned during the event. Artists will be paid for sold works within 30 days of the close of the event. Artists are expected to supply their own materials for the painting period, including easels, seating, and all art supplies including the frame for the finished painting. By applying for this event, the artist agrees to abide by all the rules set forth in this prospectus.
Judging:
Selection of artists for the event will be done by the curatorial staff based on the images submitted. The committee reserves the right to eliminate any work which does not meet the standards of quality for the event.
