3D Design, Printing, and Application is a six-week course that teaches the basics of 3D modeling and printing. Three-dimensional modeling has fundamentally changed society on many levels. With the support of 3D printing technology, we’ve seen major shifts in construction, medicine, consumer goods, entertainment, and art. Society is rapidly developing these tools to solve modern-day problems quickly, efficiently, and creatively. From a simple keychain to designing your dream home, this course aims to give students the confidence to see 3D programs as powerful, accessible tools for achieving their goals.

Just as we all need to learn how to walk before we can run, this course will focus on becoming familiar with the programs in a structured and measured way. A 3D program can often feel overwhelming otherwise. In this introductory course, students will endeavor to create a ring, a keychain, and a pendant of their choice. They will take a sketch or reference photo, 3D model it, and bring it to life using 3D printing. Additionally, students will explore how 3D printing is applied and how it is changing our world throughout this six-week course.
