Explore the possibilities of double-walled ceramics in this six week intermediate wheel throwing workshop! This course focuses on constructing double walled vessels including cups, bowls, vases, and larger vessels. Students will also learn carving techniques and surface design to create functional pieces with depth and dimension.

This class teaches students techniques that turn ordinary pots into complex forms. Students will play with negative space while still conserving the functionality of the piece. Students will learn how to throw doubled walled forms with different functions and learn carving and decorating techniques. They will learn to use the wheel to construct multi component vessels and will learn techniques for using calipers, trimming, joining, carving, and managing clay moisture levels to create successful forms.

Artist Bio:
Jess Rossi is a ceramic artist who graduated from Kutztown University in 2026 earning a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in ceramics. While at Kutztown, she was heavily involved in the ceramic program where she worked as a studio technician, ceramic course assistant, and served as a Clay Club officer. Her work has been shown in the 33rd Annual Strictly Functional Pottery National 2025 in Lancaster, PA, as well as in her solo show titled “Intricacies” during the final semester of her undergraduate career at Kutztown University.
