In this class, students will practice drawing from memory rather than from reference. Creating art is one of the best ways to connect with ourselves and process the world around. When we draw from memory, we create new links to a memory and uncover details that had been hidden within. Participants will leave with finished artwork, a deeper understanding of their creative minds, and new tools for informing future artistic practice.
Artist Bio:
I am an artist with a B.A. in Studio Arts with my focus in printmaking. Additionally, I received a concentration in Community Engagement and Social Change (which ties in with my art practice significantly!) My art teaching experience has primarily been in elementary education, from leading museum tours to art camps. When not making art, I am at my day job as an environmental educator for folks of all ages and walks of life.Â
I am currently working on the Florida Memories Project, in which I interview people from Florida on what they miss about their home state that has changed due to gentrification and/or environmental losses. To follow the project click here. My work leading up to this point focuses on the tension between control and harmony with nature. Certain symbols fascinate me such as swimming pools, golf courses, landscaping etc.
