Learn the basics of metalsmithing – sawing, texturing, soldering, forming, and stone setting. Students will learn the basic foundational skills of metalsmithing using copper sheet and brass wire. We will explore the techniques through projects including earrings, bracelets, pendants, and rings. Students will also learn how to make jump rings.
Completed pieces include – a sawing/internal sawing project, a hammer texture or forming project, a layered soldered piece, and the final project is a sterling silver ring or pendant with a gemstone.Â
My name is MJ. I have been a silversmith since 2015, when I learned the artform at Pikes Peak Community College, where I was also a teachers assistant for 2 years. I have been a jeweler in two upscale boutiques, and had success selling my jewelry in stores, at markets, and online. Metalsmithing is my passion and I love to share the techniques of the craft with others!
