Introduction to the Potters Wheel
Learn the basics of how to throw a piece from start to finish. Once students become familiar with working in a ceramic studio, they will refine their skills and discuss form and function. All instructors will demonstrate how to throw different kinds of pieces as well as different decorating techniques with their own personal flair! All glazes and firings are included in the class price. All levels welcome.

Learn the basics of wheel throwing from an eclectic and knowledgeable teacher. In this 6 week course you will learn how to turn a lump of clay into functional art that can be enjoyed for generations. You will learn how to create bowls, cups, and more, and how to finish pieces to be aesthetically pleasing and functional. Your instructor, Willow, is a queer multi-media artist from New York working in clay, photography, paint, graphic design, and more. They have 8 years of ceramics experience and love to make functional wares such as bowls, cups, and vases. See their art and learn more about them at willowfaithart.com

259 – Buff colored stoneware. Smooth enough to throw on the potter’s wheel, but strong enough to withstand most hand-building techniques. Can be fired from Cone 6 to Cone 10.Â
Speckled Brownstone – Made by Highwater Clays. Fires to a light brown in color with small black specs. Great for throwing on the potter’s wheel. Can be fired to Cone 6.Â
Brooklyn Red – Rich dark red colored clay. Contains grog that makes it exceptionally strong for sculpting or throwing large vessels. Can be fired to Cone 6.Â
240 White – Made by Standard clay. Very smooth, plastic throwing body that fires to Cone 6.
