Teenagers have many creative camp options at the Morean!

CLAY Camp is offered at the Morean Center for Clay at 420 22nd St S
All other ART Camps are offered at the Morean Arts Center at 719 Central Ave

Camp is offered in a weekly format (you must register for the entire week). Choose only 1 camp option per week.

Camp days run from 9am-3pm.  Extended care is available for an additional fee.
Before Care is available at ART CAMP ONLY starting at 8am. After Care is available at BOTH Art and Clay Camp ending at 5:30pm.

re-built darkroom! An exciting blend of art and science.

Ever wonder what makes an object appealing or interesting to viewers? Mathematic and Scientific principles can guide artists and designers to aesthetic success. Together, we will design and create projects that groove to universal rhythms, honor physics, and trick your eyes.
We will make kinetic objects, create optical illusions, expand geometrically, explore patterns, examine the biology of seeing,
and fully express the art nerd in all of us.

Free Art Friday (Instructor: Jennifer Kosharek)
Have you always wanted to take part in the Free Art Friday scene? Join us as we learn about the inventor of Free Art Friday and the reasons why people have gotten involved in this international movement. We will use these four days to create art that will be left on Friday for others to find! Student will focus on Artist Trading Cards, small works, and post-it note mini-murals. This is a great way to get into the movement of Free Art Friday.

Yarn Art Studio (Instructor: Sara Norine)
Together we will use yarn and other textiles to explore traditional and innovative techniques. We will knit, weave, stitch, ply, braid, and felt as we create pieces that can be functional or purely creative. Returning students will encounter new techniques and projects or may choose to return to techniques that they enjoyed last summer.

Mixing modern ideas and technology with those from the past, Steampunk art is a great way to make a common object a work of art. Kids will use mostly found & recycled objects as well as broken toys to create new and exciting gadgets. Students will learn a variety of faux painting techniques and basic metal & woodworking. This is a great class for boys.

Maker’s Space (Instructors: Brenda Gregory & Sara Norine)
Students will explore media and traditional craft techniques while creating original art pieces. Jewelry, Sewing, Paper Clay, Metal, Leather Tooling, Felting, Sewing and other techniques will be explored in a supported studio environment. This class will emphasize fundamental design concepts as students sculpt, stitch, stamp, string, and explore color and texture.

Quilling: Handmade Paper Projects (Instructor: Denise Kennedy)
Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create decorative designs. We will create a week of projects crafted from paper you make yourself and customized with quilled paper designs. The paper strips are rolled, looped, curled, and twisted to create shapes that make up designs. Project ideas might include greeting cards, pictures, banners, box lids, aromatherapy air fresheners, or gift tags created from handmade paper using quilled designs.

Playing with Fire…Jewelry Intensive (Instructor: Brenda Gregory)
Students will learn basic skills in Metalsmithing while being introduced to equipment, materials, tools, studio safety, and basic design. The fundamental jewelry making skills of filing, sawing, texturing with a rolling mill and torch soldering will be developed. Each week new skills will be incorporated into a new project. Students will complete 2-3 pieces of jewelry using copper, brass and sterling silver. Playing with Fire is offered several times throughout the summer. Recommended to register for only 1 week, as the curriculum will be repeated week-to-week.
