Are you ready to explore your creativity and express yourself through the vibrant world of painting? Join us for an engaging adult painting class where your artistic journey is guided but your creative freedom is limitless!
What to Expect:
Our adult painting class offers a perfect blend of guided instruction and personal exploration. Whether you’re a beginner looking to dip your brush into the basics or an experienced artist seeking new inspiration, this class is designed to cater to all skill levels.
Guided Instruction: Our expert instructor, Kim Nicotera, brings over two decades of teaching experience and a passion for fostering creativity in every student. Each session will begin with a discussion and guided practice, covering essential techniques, color theory, and composition tips. Kim’s supportive and insightful guidance ensures you build a solid foundation while gaining confidence in your skills. The course will end with a critique so that all artists can share and gain feedback.
Creative Freedom: While instruction is provided, students are encouraged to make their own decisions and choose their own subjects. Want to paint a serene landscape, a vibrant cityscape, or an abstract masterpiece? The choice is yours!

If you are working in oils:
- Solvent container with clamping lid
- Small sketch pad w/ pencil or marker
- Oil paint (basic colors, plus colors of your choice)
- Brushes (plus palette/painting knife, sponge)
- Canvas, or Ampersand panels or other support- 12×16 or smaller work best
- Solvent (Gamsol or Turpenoid)
If you are working in pastel:
- Set of 24 pastels
- 9×12 or 12×16 pastel paper/ or Ampersand Pastelboard or other support (I use Ampersand Pastelboard)
- Clipboard to attach it to
If you are working in watercolors:
- Set up watercolors
- Watercolor block or mounted paper or Ampersand Aquaboard
- Assorted watercolor brushes
- Water & a cup
If you are working in acrylics:
- Small sketch pad w/ pencil or marker
- Acrylic paint (basic colors, plus colors of your choice)
- Brushes (plus palette/painting knife, sponge)
- Canvas, or Ampersand panels or other support- 12×16 or smaller work best
- Cup for water/brushes
Other materials you may need:
Towel, sketchbook, and pencil.

Kimberly Nicotera – Art Teacher and Director of Education
Biography
Kim Nicotera is a passionate and dedicated art educator with over two decades of experience inspiring students and fostering creativity in the classroom. Currently serving as the Director of Education at the Morean Arts Center, Kim oversees the education department, supervises faculty recruitment, and develops engaging educational programs for diverse age groups.
Experience and Achievements:
- Art Educator, Everett Public Schools (2001-2023): Kim spent 22 years enriching the minds of students in Everett, MA. She excelled in creating a positive educational climate, promoting student learning, and adapting her teaching methods to meet the varying needs and interests of her students. She also spent many years as a mentor to incoming art teachers in her district. Her ability to manage classroom behavior and deliver instructional activities across various art mediums made her a beloved and effective teacher.
- Graphic Designer, Cryohub (2018-2023): In addition to her teaching career, Kim worked as a graphic designer, where she honed her skills in creating on-brand visual elements, technical illustrations, and marketing materials. Her work contributed to generating sales revenue and growing the customer base by designing cohesive corporate brands and directing projects from concept to final delivery.
- Director of Education, Morean Arts Center (2024-Present): In her current role, Kim is responsible for overseeing the education department, supervising faculty, and creating educational programming. She also organizes community outreach programs such as Morean Family Day, maintains classroom and studio spaces, and builds professional relationships within the community to support the center’s vision as a non-profit organization.
