This breathtaking exhibition tests the definition and boundaries of functional clay art. Plants and their root systems are showcased in open grids tethered to walls.  Experience precise attention to details – the artist even created the light fixtures showcasing the clay encased plants!

ARTIST STATEMENT – “This body of work explores the relationship between space, object and shadow. The Plantscapes were inspired by weathered buildings and the way in which vegetation fills the cracks, blurring together the lines between decay and regrowth.”

Karina Mago is a Venezuelan artists and instructor, raised in Caracas, Venezuela then transplanted to South Florida. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida State University, with concentrations in Ceramics, Painting, and Printmaking. She has traveled and showcased across the country, completing Artist Residencies at Googleworks Center for the Arts in Reading, PA, the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, CA, and the Morean Center for Clay in St. Petersburg, FL.

Karina splits her time between snuggling her cat and firing kilns as she embarks on her second year as an Artist in Residence at the Morean Center for Clay.

Galleries at the Morean Center for Clay are free and open to the public Wednesday thru Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
