Subtlety: Dani Lewis and Lily Denhoff

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 14, 6-9PM
On View: November 14 – January 2
Morean Center for Clay: 420 22nd St. S.

Subtlety is a group exhibition by Dani Lewis and Lily Denhoff, that explores the work they have created during their first year as artists in residence at the Morean Center for Clay. Working at the intersection of function and sculpture, Dani and Lily implement handbuilding techniques to create their own unique bodies of work. Dani’s voluminous organic forms exist in a synergistic contrast with Lily’s grounded geometric forms, creating a dialogue about scale, material, and subtle details. Although both artists explore different content and aesthetics, Dani and Lily emphasize play and experimentation within their creative practices.

About the Artists:

Lily Denhoff is an artist working primarily with the mediums of ceramics, metals and fiber. Raised in Tampa, Florida, she has been a student of art since age 5. Growing up working her way through the cosmetology and restaurant industries, she allows her versatile background and physical environment to inform present-day technique and style. Since the beginning of her ceramics journey, she has specialized in woodfiring and has been exploring tableware, furniture, and abstract sculpture. At the Morean Center for Clay she has been assisting and leading woodfire workshops and executing a custom plateware line for Lara Apothecary Bar and Bazaar in Ybor City, FL.

Dani Lewis is a contemporary multi-media artist who primarily works with clay. Growing up in Connecticut, she was raised in a creative family that encouraged her to explore art at a young age, and she was first introduced to ceramics in middle school. In 2024, Dani graduated with her BFA in ceramics from Arizona State University and recently completed a post-bac program at the University of Hartford. She has received multiple awards and scholarships and has exhibited work in group and juried exhibitions around the country. She has also attended workshops at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, was a 2025 summer resident at the Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts, and is a current Artist in Residence at the Morean Center for Clay in St. Petersburg, Florida.
