A Miami native, Muriel was a 1942 graduate of the Ringling School of Art, studied at Carnegie Mellon Institute, and later took courses at USF. Muriel’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Florida and beyond. A student of William Pachner, Muriel’s work focused largely on the negative effects of man on the environment, specifically the Everglades and rainforests. Muriel taught at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center and Florida Gulf Coast Art Center. She served as a judge for many shows in the area as well as giving gallery talks at local galleries and art centers. She was a founding member of Studio 1212 in Clearwater in 1970 where she twice served as president. In 1999, Muriel won the Pinellas County Arts Council Artist of the Year award. Muriel was a longtime member of the Morean and participated in numerous group shows.
